The Self Help Alliancean experiment with 18 self help support projects in different parts of England
National Development Officer, Self Help Alliance* This paper highlights some of the interesting findings from the Self Help Alliance (SHA) scheme. The SHA is an experimental three-year programme examining the value of providing local generalized support to self help groups concerned with health and social care.
The method used in this paper to focus upon findings is two-fold. Firstly the views of six experienced self help support development officers are reported within a framework set by Dr Evers for the Vienna Dialogue III. Secondly, the National Development Officer of the SHA raises other issues of interest that have arisen during the scheme and supplements his analysis with reference to research reports produced by the Tavistock Institute of Human Relations.
A broad range of issues are covered with a view to giving the reader a flavour of the debate that has taken place and is continuing.
