A review of the health promoting status of secondary schools in Wales and England

Following a questionnaire survey of secondary schools in Wales and England, it is apparent that only a few schools are perceived to be health promoting. On the whole, the understanding of the health promoting school concept is disappointing. Finally, there are indications that pupils and their families had barely an involvement in the schools' decision-making procedures with regards to health matters. A set of recommendations is provided to assist schools to become health promoting.Key words: England; health promotion; schools; Wales
